How to treat Periodontitis?
The main goal of periodontal treatment is to eliminate inflammation and shallow periodontal pockets. Treatment may be carried out in three phases:
1. Hygiene and Education
In the initial phase, professional teeth cleaning is often carried out to control the plaque buildup. This is also the time for patient education in regards to smoking cessation, oral hygiene, and dietary recommendations.
2. Nonsurgical Treatment
The corrective phase begins with the non-surgical periodontal treatment. It consists of removing the subgingival plaque and tartar and polishing the roots’ surface through scaling. Surgical procedures are performed in patients who still have deep pockets after nonsurgical treatment.
If everything goes well, your gums should heal in no time and reattach to your clean and healthy teeth.
